BUF in Heule is a restaurant for true meat lovers, where everything revolves around the quality of the products on the plate and the company at the table. Hunt was involved from the start to visually translate the concept into a clear and recognizable brand.
BUF is built on the simple yet powerful vision of chef Thijs Clinckemaillie: good meat, good wine, and a table full of people enjoying them together. That clarity immediately appealed to us. The interior, styled like a classic Parisian bistro, exudes a timeless warmth, and we wanted to capture that feeling in a contemporary brand.
Photography is arguably the most important tool to capture the atmosphere of a restaurant. Together with Laurence Vander Elstraeten from Buro Bonito, we defined a photographic style that perfectly reflects the dining experience at BUF: Warm coziness in a classic yet relaxed setting.
We also developed an identity featuring classic typography, a distinctive ox-head monogram, a deep wine red as the primary color, and a focus on quality materials and printing techniques. Across the website, signage, menus, and other print applications, we maintained that consistency in every expression. And the deceptively simple tagline “Vlees, wijn, gezellig samenzijn." (Meat, wine, cozy togetherness) distills the entire concept to its essence.
Not every strong brand begins with a complex story. Sometimes, it's simply a chef with a clear vision and a product that speaks for itself.
